I say Aurora

No-one knows how to pronounce aurora so it's much easier to call it the Northern lights.

The dancing merry men have fascinated us since the beginning of time and of late aurora warnings have been available via the internet and smart phone apps.

This has led to the phenomenon of small groups of people gathering on the bankie or along the harbour piers armed with serious looking cameras.

All stand still, gazing north zombie like. Judging by the accents some may be visitors, perhaps drawn to Scotland by the possibility of sighting the lights.

The biggest draw back is clouds, but ever optimistic the crowds still gather, hopeful that the gloom might lift and the heavens be exposed.

So if you're out walking the dog late one night and wonder as to the reason for so many folk standing around you now know, not some sort of kinky meet up but light seekers.

We too went out on a cloudy evening when there was a red aurora alert and managed to get a fine photo of the cosmic radiation (see photo above). Next time we might just stay next to the fire
