Whilst a large question mark hangs over the repairs at the harbour the issue of navigation has once again come to the fore.
The recently dredged harbour will hopefully offer deeper water, but what wasn't in the budget was to dredge the river between the entrance to the harbour and the mouth of the river at the end of the piers.
The river channel is now very shallow and there are fears that there isn't room for two boats to pass each other.
In order to alleviate the risk of collision or running aground one proposal is to install traffic lights at the end of the piers and at the entrance to the harbour. These would operate to ensure that there's only one boat in the channel at any one time.
