Bear Scotland are to install some new traffic lights at the Lochloy/A 96 junction in an attempt to ease congestion at this busy junction.
As reported earlier in The Spin it's the intention of Highland Council to build a roundabout here but meanwhile it's hoped that the new lights will improve matters for motorists.
It's thought that as news gets around about the harbour being closed then Nairn will attract less visitors and traffic volumes should decrease.
However, this could change if the go ahead for 115 new homes happens for Lochloy Rd on Cllr Liz MacDonald's land.
A quick scientific survey paid for by The Spin shows that on average 5 cars can exit right from Lochloy Road onto the A96 with each change of lights.
The light sequence is every 5 minutes.
A conservative estimate is that 115 new homes would equal 115 new cars.
It would take nearly 2 hours for all 115 cars to turn right onto the A96 at the Lochloy Rd junction (note: we chose to look at vehicles turning right as this is by far the busiest direction of travel).
Motorists have voiced concern about a number of cars jumping the red light in order to exit this junction, it's certainly something we've witnessed ourselves.

Seeing as the lights turned red on me this morning heading east on the A96 at 5.20am when there was no vehicles, no pedestrians, nothing anywhere. I conclude the lights are knackered. I must admit though, I did enjoy my ninety seconds of stillness before continuing on my epic journey.
