The harbour saga

Sooking
The harbour saga continues.

In the light of a cold day it we can now see (thanks to the Gurn) the extent of the subsidence (see link below).

It's likely that the road will remain closed to traffic for quite some time, and the fact that one piece of the harbour retaining wall has collapsed must put a question mark over the remaining structure.

Will the dredging cease for now, repairs be carried out, and the team reappear next year to complete the job? Boats usually return to the harbour around April but who knows if all the required inspections and repair work will be carried out in time?

One suggestion is that a reverse cofferdam is constructed at the entrance to the harbour and then the dredger is used to pump water back into the harbour so that the remaining harbour walls are held in place (for now) by water pressure.

It's a sorry mess that's exposed the poor state of the harbour.

How long before Highland Council decide to fill it in and turn it into a car park as the Leopold Street rag once suggested for an April fool's day?
