Strange lights and shapes have been seen in the water off of Nairn fuelling speculation that submarines are operating in the area.
Could these be Russian submarines on their way home for Christmas doing a spot of sightseeing, or are they just bored?
For many years Russian submarines have followed and tracked UK nuclear submarines as they left the Clyde, but in recent years our ageing Astute class vessels rarely travel more than a few miles whilst pretending to be sailing the world's oceans.
Quite what the Russians might be doing if they are indeed in the Moray Firth remains a mystery. They might of course be planning a trip ashore to get a few bottles of malt from Sainsbury's now that their favourite off licence Victoria Wine is no more
