3rd party snow ploughs and gritters

As council budget cuts bite deeper one Scottish authority is looking at the possibility of adding snow clearing measures to buses.

The vehicles tend to travel the busiest routes and if they carried out this winter work it would equal a big saving for cash strapped local authorities.

The downside appears to be that so many bus services terminate early evening so council gritters would still be required.

But if buses can carry out some of the day time clearing on main roads this would be a big help. It's also planned to offer passengers small sacks of grit so they can clear ice and snow at bus stops.
