House in one

Could a planning application be made for the Nairn Dunbar golf club?

In recent years the club has seen membership fall drastically with seemingly very few younger folk wanting to participate in golf.

There was once a wait of several years to become a member but now you'd be welcomed almost instantaneously.

Of course anyone can apply for planning permission whether or not they own the land. The Spin understands that part of the current course would be for housing and the rest rented to Parkdean who are eager to expand their site.

Currently the land is Common Good but the golf club pay only a very small rent.

Could this be the answer to Nairn's housing shortage? A question mark hangs over the planning application for Councillor Elizabeth MacDonald's land and this could be an answer to much needed social housing within Nairn?

Access to the A96 for the housing would be via Maggot Road with no access to Lochloy Road alleviating further traffic to the awful bottleneck at the A96/Lochloy Road junction.

A sad loss for golfers but would more housing be more than welcome?
