A large part of Inverness now sits under the cloud of free wi fi.

Who could deny the attraction of such a service, especially as it's planned to role it out to fourteen other towns including Nairn.

The cost is high but there is some government money to put towards it.

'Fourteen other towns have now been identified for funding for free Wi-Fi on the basis of the anticipated benefits to tourism and local economy'.

It seems ironic to us at the Spin that a few days ago Highland Council voted to start charging for parking in Nairn whilst the offer of free wi fi still stands. Arguably free parking also has 'anticipated benefits to tourism and the local economy'. Given a choice we suspect the majority of people would opt for free parking rather than wi fi as there are already several hot spots around the town.

We read the Leopold Street rag this morning hopeful that the three councillors who voted for the budget cuts would reveal their cunning plan to turn around parking charges. It would seem the best we can hope for is consultation. One councillor suggested he was forced to vote for the budget or submit alternative plans. Funny that as all SNP councillors managed to vote against it.

One person in today's Nairnshire Telegraph calls for the three councillors to resign, we can see this might also bring benefits to tourism and the local community. We will wait and see.
