That'll be free then

Sometimes you have to love our cash strapped, black holed Highland Council.

It's emerged that the numerous charging stations its installed for electric cars at great cost around the Highlands are to remain free to use. The reason? It'd be too expensive to convert them to take money from folk using them.

This leaves staff at the Spin puzzled. If an investment is needed to make money why is it rejected due the fact that it'd cost money in the first place?

Even more curious is that councils tend to outsource collection of monies for the likes of parking. They effectively sell or lease a designated area of land to a private company who then pay for the complete package such as meters or ticket machines and staff to check them etc. In return the council usually gets a small rent and a percentage of parking fees. Could they not try the same method with charging stations?

Here at the Spin we're all saving for electric cars. Free fuel and parking, cheers Highland Council.
