Early warning system

Nairn's community councils have joined forces to buy several dozen air horns that'll be supplied to local homes and businesses.

The idea is that whenever a parking attendant is spotted in the town holders of the air horns will go outside and issue three short blasts.

This will then be repeated by other horn owners.

Local motorists will also be encouraged to toot their horns three times if they too spot parking attendants in the town. It's hoped that with time a text service will be put in place that will inform all Nairn residents on their mobiles if and when they should be aware of parking enforcement agents being active in the area.

If successful it's thought that the early warning system will completely negate the parking charges put in place by Highland council which were voted for by three of Nairn's councillors as people will just move their vehicles before being ticketed.
