The Highland Council charity box

According to the Inverness Courier (about to shrink to tabloid size) Highland Council hopes to raise some £35,000 from parking charges in Nairn.

Councillors who didn't vote for the recent budget proposal were asked to come up with alternatives, although 19 SNP councillors just voted against it.

Here at the Spin we have some alternatives to the parking charges.

Councillors in Nairn could be reduced to just two. After their recent stance over the budget I'm sure many people would be glad to see the back if them. This would save £16K plus expenses and would save having the parking charges.

Another idea would be council charity boxes in shops and restaurants, or indeed in people's houses. Folk could just chip in the odd bit of change and hopefully by the end of the year enough monies would have been raised.

If we are to believe certain Nairn councillors they will fight the parking charges and they won't happen. A pantomime response here, oh yes they will. Well done to the three who voted for them.
