Spend fifty pennies

As the cost of public toilets rumbles on we can reveal that Highland council is looking to outsource the service.

This would involve the use of potable toilets that would be swapped out once a week. These toilets don't need a water supply as they have a canister for waste material and a hand sanitiser.

The toilets would incur a 50p charge for use that would go towards running costs but other than an official to handle the contract no other Highland council staff would be involved.

Several local firms have been approached for quotations.

The council has rejected an idea to make payments to local establishments for public use of their toilet facilities as too many suitable businesses are closing down.
