The much highlighted budget cuts have forced Highland council to look at the cost of providing colourful hanging baskets.
Many High Streets and other areas enjoy both the colour and the flowers that the hanging baskets provide, however mounting costs are causing a rethink.
Real flowers are not only a cost to grow but continue to be so throughout the season as they need daily watering and dead heading.
To that end Highland council are looking at adopting plastic flowers as a solution. Although the initial outlay is higher than real flowers a basket of plastic flowers should last ten year plus and prove much cheaper in the long run.
Just have to hope that none of them blow into the sea and cause further pollution.
