Seaweed farm?

The number of boats in Nairn harbour has visibly dropped, has austerity seeped through to this past time?

There are plans to install a new pontoon in an effort to raise extra revenue but at the moment it would seem there are plenty of vacant spaces on the existing ones.

Another money spinner for Highland council might be that of seaweed farming in the harbour. It would see that an experiment is already underway for the usually pristine ramp into the harbour is now covered in weed.

Seaweed growth within the harbour area is often promoted by the run off from farmer's fields which is fed into the basin via the river.

Seaweed was once a big commercial concern in Nairn and if the harbour experiment is successful it looks as though it could be again.

Seaweed has become a popular foodie item and is used in several beauty products.
